Her Safari describes a dangerous journey by four people through Africa in 1969. A classical travel story, based substantially on real experiences, it recreates the time and the places; illuminating the hopes, fears and tensions of people living in a continent swept up by the abrupt end of European colonialism and struggling to break free of the violence engendered by cultural collision. On the long road from London to Cape Town, the well-educated but youthful naive travellers become fatally entangled in Africa’s murderous politics.

About the Author
Mike Jenkinson has always loved to travel and write. He despatched first hand accounts to an Australian newspaper when he travelled with his wife, Libby, and another couple from London to Cape Town in 1969. The sometimes scary experiences described in those articles are the background for Her Safari. While holding demanding day jobs in newspaper journalism and then government communications, Jenkinson had three books published, including two that made the Australian non-fiction best-seller lists. He has lived in Tasmania for more than 23 years and recently reorganised his life to give himself more time at his beloved keyboard.
