Heidi’s sketchbook

I began my art journey in 2018, drawing characters in an anime style. I didn’t have many hobbies at the time and I became immersed in the world of art. I would constantly watch YouTube tutorials on how to draw different things, and would often ask my parents to buy me art supplies.

My school at the time, Molesworth Primary School, didn’t teach art, so besides online tutorials I was largely self-taught.

By Grade 6, I was trying different sorts of art. I became fond of alcohol markers, and dabbled in watercolour. I also became interested in learning realism and anatomy.

At the end of my Grade 6 year, I decided to apply for an art scholarship at Dominic College. During this time my primary school was also entering in the Young Archie awards (a portraiture prize run by the Art Gallery of New South Wales, open to artists aged 5 to 18). I put forward a portrait of my younger brother and was named a winner in one of the categories. A little time later I was accepted for a visual arts scholarship at Dominic College.

Since then, I have been commissioned to paint or draw a range of subjects for paid work, made a small online presence for myself posting my art on Instagram, where I also posted a video that received half a million views. I have ventured into digital drawing and have worked on a visual journal.
